Summer's Edge Day Camp

Summary: Summary: We welcome visits and emails from our alumni to catch up on life now, and to reminisce about “way back when, at Summer’s Edge.” The conversations reflect upon camp traditions, senior camper trips, Olympics, and, of course, Krack-A-Bout on Fridays. The prevailing theme, however, from each community member includes, the feeling of “coming home.” We would like to preserve that feeling of “coming home” to Summer’s Edge by starting an alumni association. The goal is to have the association established and in place for our 25th anniversary year, in 2016. Please fill out  the forms bellow to be added to our Alumni Data Base.

Day Camp

Morning Announcements and group attendance for the Summer’s Edge Community began at 9:00 am followed by the first scheduled group activity.  At 10:00 a.m. a short break is scheduled for “snack and friendly chatter.”  The three additional morning periods include two scheduled activities and Red Cross Swimming Lessons.  Summer’s Edge offer a variety of activities in the morning schedule which gives each camper the opportunity to try every activity in camp.  The staff encourages campers to fully participate in the morning schedule with their group. Morning periods are approximately 35 minutes in length.  The entire camp breaks for lunch and relaxation time at 12:15 p.m in Minuteman’s air-conditioned cafeteria.  Campers bring their own snack and lunch to camp each day; refrigeration is available.

Summer’s Edge Day Camp believes in offering campers group activities as well as  individual choices.  The afternoon schedule includes free choice activity periods and one free swim period.  The afternoon periods are approximately 40 minutes in length.   The Summer’s Edge Camp community convenes for End of the Day Announcements, and campers are dismissed to their respective parent(s)/guardian(s) at 3:30 p.m.

SWING & SWIM

The Tennis School offers the SWING & SWIM® Program for girls and boys 6 to 14 years old, that are interested in developing their tennis skills. Flexible enrollment include one week sessions with a  full day or half day option.  Or half day service for single days based on availability.

The day begins at 9:00 am with 75 minutes of high quality tennis instruction by our knowledgeable and energetic coaching staff under the leadership of Joe Gallo, USPTA Tennis Teaching Professional. A brief snack time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (please pack a snack). After snack the morning program continues with tennis activities, including lead up games, and supervised match play. The players enjoy a free swim at the indoor pool which is staffed with lifeguards.  Players participating in the full day program are escorted by the coaches to join the Summer’s Edge Day Campers for lunch at 12:15 pm or are dismissed to their respective parent(s)/guardian(s).

Senior Camper Program

The senior camper program originated in 1994 to challenge the older campers of the Summer’s Edge Community. Teenagers entering the seventh and eighth grade are eligible for this two-year program. In addition to the regular camp schedule, the senior campers participate in trip and travel programs to promote an awareness of outdoor recreation. As a component of the American Red Cross Swim Program, senior campers learn water safety skills and may progress to the Lifeguard Readiness Program.

After successful completion of the senior camper program, Summer’s Edge invites campers entering the ninth grade to apply to the Leader In Training (L.I.T.) Program. L.I.T.s participate in the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Aid Course. The final program for adolescent campers entering the tenth grade is the Counselor In Training Program.
